The song of Paul Gangmei "CANNIBALS"

This is a small biography about Mr Paul Marudai Gangmei, it won’t be hyperbole to say that Paul Gangmei needs no introduction to any music lover; Paul Gangmei was the lead of the Band "Cannibals" and a great vocalist. His real name was Marudai Gangmei and was born on 12th June 1966 at Kakhulong, Paona Bazar, Imphal. He belongs to Rongmei (Kabui) tribe and by faith Christian Baptist, youngest among his two brothers and four sisters. He was born to Mr Gourachand Gangmei and Mrs. (Late) Thambal Gangmei, his father is a retired Head master of Kakhulong LP school and Paul Gangmei married to Mrs Athing Gangmei. Due to his chronic illness his life was shorten and untimely he passed away on 02th April 2014at RIMS Hospital, Imphal.

In born with him the passion of music and was a lead vocalist and a guitarist, his gifted voice has indeed indelible dint in the hearts of the entire music lover. He started his first band with "Astounder" way back in 1984, "Black Sultan" in 1985, "Machine Head" in 1986 and then the "Cannibals" from 1987 to 1996. From 1984 to 1992, altogether he had already perform in more than 100 concerts giving his electrifying performance and mesmerizing the crowds with his zeal and exceptional talents, of which more than 40 concerts were perform live only at GM Hall Imphal, Manipur.

Paul lead band “Cannibals” were consider as the pioneer of India’s Hard rock band - dominating from mid 80's to mid 90's playing songs from Black Sabbath, Rainbow, AC-DC, Guns & Roses, Judas Priest , Motley Cure, Deep Purple, Ozzy and many more, besides songs from this band the Cannibals were also famous for their original songs like “Sweet Reggae”, "Dirty Boy Blues" and “In the middle of the night”. Cannibals got popular with the songs Paul sung with his versatile voice, songs like... Highway Star, Smoke on water ( Deep Purple), Street of dream ( Rainbow ), Diamond and rust, Breaking the law ( Judas Priest), N.I.B, Paranoid ( Black Sabbath), Bark at the moon (Ozzy), Love don't stay (Tiger of Pan Tang), Place in your heart (Nazareth), Number of the beast, Revelation, Trooper, 2 minutes to midnight (Iron Maiden). Some of the Cannibals own compose songs were such as Confused, Goodbye Dead Body, Devil Devil, Burden of Dream, Inner Feeling.
Deep Purple was his favourite band, among vocalist his Favourite was Ian Gillan, Favourite Performer band was Iron Maiden and his Favourite Music genre was obviously the Hard Rock.
Paul Gangmei released two of his solo albums during his hay days, his two albums was a great hits and was like by all his fans, his solo albums were 'Oh! Zeliangrong, and "Evergreen Munglao" . "Oh! Zeliangrong" album carries social message for all the people in general and particularly for Zeliangrong community. In his next album "Evergreen Munglao", which includes his hit song “Pongbammei”, the album mainly comprise of love songs.
For all the music lover, Paul Gangmei was a great singer, a true ROCKstar, a great PERFORMER, who had shown the new dawn of rock music in Manipur, but for us he will always remain a “Good son” over and above a “Great Singer”, he is no more with us but he has imprint countless memories for the family and for his fans who have admired him, loved him and praised him.
The last farewell ceremony for Paul Gangmei will be performing on 06th April 2014 (Today) at Christian cemetery Chingmeirong at 9.30 am and at his residence – Kakhulong Paona bazaar, Imphal. We would request all his band mates, friends, well wishers and his fans to kindly attend the ceremony and bid adieu to our beloved Paul Marudai Gangmei.

Our relationship with God begins with faith, which helps us realize that we are delivered from our past by Christ’s dead. Hope grows as we learn all that God has in mind for us; it gives us the promise of the future. And God’s love fills our lives and gives us the ability to reach out to others.
