Public gathering on the mysterious death of Reingamphi Awungshi And the apathy of the Delhi Police on this issue. Public gathering and press conference will be held in front of the Malviya Nagar Police Station, New Delhi, 1st June 2013, at 2 p.m.
Miss Reingamphi Awungshi (a 21 year old Tangkhul girl from Ukhrul in Manipur in Northeast India), a migrant job seeker, was found dead under mysterious condition on May 29 in the room, ground floor flat in B Block, Chirag Dill. The death was discovered when the police had broken open the bolted door after Reingamphi did not respond to the repeated calls by her landlord.
She was found lying on the bed with injuries on her face, nose and toes with the cell phone still in her hand. Without a proper investigation the police had come up with a statement saying that Awungshi had committed suicide. But eyewitnesses to the scene and photographs had made the police version doubtful. On the other hand the police till now (late night 31 May 2013) refuses to let the family members of late Awungshi lodge an FIR. Instead they had pressed upon them to take away the mortal remains of the deceased from the mortuary at the AIIMS.
The police’s apathy and prejudice in Awungshi’s death probe let us to strengthen the suspicion that Awungshi was murdered and the police had been deceiving the public to cover up if there was crime leading to the death of Awungshi. We want justice! In the past several criminal cases such as the murder of Ramchanpy Hongray in 2009, Loitam Richard 2012 (in Bangalore) and other severe racial assaults on the persons from the NorthEast had been denied proper investigation and justice.
The case of late Awungshi is a repetition of crime on woman on the one hand and institutionalized racial discrimination. In this regard a public gathering and press conference will be held in front of the Malviya Nagar Police Station, New Delhi, 1st June 2013, at 2 p.m.
